Gerald D. Dennis "Bear" "Jerry", 79, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away at 5:19 am, Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana with his loving family by his side.
Jerry was born on April 13, 1944 in Olney, Illinois the son of Earl and Helen (Gill) Dennis. Jerry entered the US Navy on June 26, 1968 and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War having been with the Navy Seabees that would build bridges and roads to help get troops moved to different areas. He married Virginia Wolfe-Ruckman on February 17, 2007 at the Louisville First Baptist Church and they shared nearly 17 years of marriage.
Jerry devoted 34 years of his career to the Illinois Department of Transportation, where he served in different roles over the years with the last being the equipment manager at the West Yard in Effingham. His commitment to community service was equally notable, as he served with distinction on the Oskaloosa Township Board and the Marion County Water Bo
